AmServ, LTD/DuSan Community Ambulance began service on April, 1979. Known as DuSan Ambulance, our service is a non-profit charitable organization with assistance from area businessmen in DuBois, PA. The first ambulances used for transporting were two hearses donated by two local Funeral Chapels, as well as the office being housed at the DuBois Nursing Home, and consisting of a phone and cot, and staffed with 5 volunteers from the local community. As a result of these combined efforts, DuSan Ambulance was capable of handling a call volume of approximately 79 transports in the first year of operation.
On April 18,1982 DuSan Ambulance was certified in Volunteer Ambulance Service Certification ( V.A.S.C.) by the Pennsylvania Department of Health. With this certification, DuSan could officially handle 911 emergency calls. During our fiscal year 1982-1983 DuSan’s call volume increased to over 500 transports, and our volunteer staff grew from 5 to 15 making it necessary for the purchase of a new ambulance. Between 1984 & 1985 with our call volume reaching over 2400 transports, a second new ambulance was purchased and the construction of an Ambulance station took place centralizing DuSan’s operations.
In December of 1987 DuBois Regional Medical Center approached the DuSan Board of Directors to implement an Advanced Life Support Program (A.L.S.), and in March 1988 DuSan was certified by the State of Pennsylvania to be A.L.S. (Advanced Life Support) providers. This A.L.S. program serves seven outlying areas of the community by intercepting with basic life support ambulances.
In the 1988-1989 fiscal year DuSan’s Board of Directors began to offer financial incentives to their volunteer staff. Adversely it affected the cash flow and in 1989 the board of directors took action by implementing new fiscal controls and administration procedures, including the reorganization and name change. The year 2000 brings AmServ LTD / DuSan Ambulance Service into its 21st year of community service. The service is an Advanced Life Support and Basic Life Support Service.
In 2011, AmServ LTD/DuSan Ambulance continues to service the City of DuBois, Sandy Township and seven outlying areas with Basic Life Support and Advanced Life Support Service. We are providing service with 5 fully equipped Advanced Life Support Ambulances and a Public Utilities Commission Certified wheelchair van. We are currently providing the community with over 3000 transports a year.
Currently in 2015 Amserv LTD/DuSan Ambulance has added another licensed ambulance to the fleet along with a licensed ALS Squad interceptor unit. We have also purchased two new wheelchair vans which are capable of performing stretcher van transports. This brings the number of vehicles in the fleet to 9 total.
